Manipur Voter Roll Falls 6.3%, Sikkim Sees 11.2% Drop After SIR Exercise

Manipur and Sikkim have recorded significant reductions in their electoral rolls following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with more than 1.85 lakh names deleted across the two northeastern states.

The final photo electoral rolls show that Manipur now has 19,60,620 registered voters, down from 20,93,076 before the revision. Sikkim’s electorate has fallen to 4,18,467 from 4,71,081.

In total, 1,85,070 names were removed during the exercise—1,32,456 in Manipur and 52,614 in Sikkim. The reductions represent roughly 6.3% of Manipur’s pre-revision electorate and 11.2% of Sikkim’s.

Officials said enumeration forms were submitted by 19,34,399 electors.

Manipur final electoral roll

The final electoral roll for Manipur was published in line with directions issued by the Election Commission of India.

The draft roll released on July 5 contained 19,34,399 electors. Officials said enumeration forms were received from all 19,34,399 voters included in the draft.

However, 1,58,677 electors whose enumeration forms were not received were excluded from the draft roll. Officials classified these cases into several categories:

• 72,473 voters were identified as shifted

• 43,000 were recorded as deceased

• 34,740 were marked absent

• 7,394 were identified as duplicate entries

• 1,070 fell under other categories

The final Manipur roll comprises 9,53,350 male voters and 10,06,962 female voters. The state therefore has a gender ratio of 1,056 female electors for every 1,000 male electors. There are also 308 third-gender voters.

Sikkim voter count declines

The Chief Electoral Officer’s office in Gangtok said Sikkim’s final electoral roll contains 4,18,467 voters following the deletion of 52,614 names.

The draft electoral roll published in July had 4,33,294 electors. Of these, 3,61,159 voters, or 83.35%, were successfully mapped to their own or their parents’ electoral details using information from the previous qualifying roll or the last SIR.

The remaining 72,135 electors, accounting for 16.65% of the draft electorate, could not be mapped to the earlier records, according to an official statement.

The final rolls in both states have been published following the completion of the SIR process and in accordance with the Election Commission’s instructions.
