Mr. Shyam Maheshwari was the former Chief Executive Officer, Founder and Partner of SSG Capital Management. Shyam Maheshwari is Associate Member at The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and on the board of 5 other companies. He was primarily responsible for SSG’s investment activities in India. Shyam received an undergraduate degree from the University of Calcutta and an MBA from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore.

Ares SSG has been synonymous with Shyam Maheshwari for many years through the key deals done by SSG Capital in the country including through ACRE. Over the years, Shyam Maheshwari SSG has made continuous contributions to the investment landscape of India as a highly seasoned professional. As a founding member of SSG Capital, he set it up in 2009 backed by former members of Lehman Brothers’ Asia, Emaar MGF, Lotus Greens, Lodha Developers and mortgage lender PNB Housing Finance in India.
With a pan-Asian presence, Ares SSG is one of the largest alternative asset managers in the Asia-Pacific with about USD 7 billion in assets under management, more than 80 employees, and over 120 direct institutional investors as of 31 December. It also has exposure to real estate through Shapoorji Pallonji Finance, in which it picked up a 46.87 percent stake in 2018.Ares SSG has recently completed financing over 9000cr to Shapoorji Pallonji Group against their stake in Tata Sons. This came on the back of their stake in Shapoorji Pallonji Finance Private Limited which was the non-bank financing platform. Their recent acquisition in real estate was Altico which was first resolution outside NCLT framework. Their Asset Reconstruction Company — Asset Care & Reconstruction Enterprises (ACRE) — has grown from 200cr when Ares SSG invested in 2014, to over 10,000cr.
Over the years, Mr. Maheshwari has made significant contributions to the company, particularly in the India market, where he has helped them build a strong business, and importantly a deep team of senior investment professionals who are well positioned to carry on their Indian business successfully. Mr. Maheshwari will be staying until the end of 2021 in order to facilitate a smooth transition.
Mr. Maheshwari, one of the founders of SSG Capital has decided to move on from the firm. In October 2021, Shyam Maheshwari decided to rescind from his positions at SSG Capital to dedicate more time to his family, especially his children, and pursue his interests in philanthropy and other personal interests. Shyam Maheshwari is likely to enter a new innings as an entrepreneur in the investment domain.
